Getting on my soapbox for a moment
Black Friday encompasses everything that is wrong with the United States of America. People have literally killed other people for material items. Material items that you are not taking with you when you die, or will even care about in a few years. And yet, lives have been lost over this. Does this sound petty to you? If not, you probably need to step back and look at your life and your choices, because let me assure you that they have not been good ones.
Black Friday signifies a triumph of human greed over human worth. Not to mention, it comes the day after Thanksgiving. You know, the day where everyone proclaims on Facebook that they are just oh-so-thankful for everything that they have, now move over bitch that’s my TV. All those Occupy Wall Street protesters, trying to rise against the greedy corporations? Guess what?
You just got played like a basketball at a Lakers’ game.
Everyone, including myself, loves getting a good deal when they’re shopping. But as someone who works in retail and investigated the different sales going on—y’all didn’t even get that great of a deal. $100 off a $1300 TV? If you can’t afford to buy it when it’s $1300, you still can’t afford to buy it when it’s $1200. And that purse? It’s going on clearance right after Christmas.
I truly wish that Americans were smart enough to think of these things themselves, but I can’t bring myself to give them the benefit of the doubt. ‘Tis the season of giving, but let’s not get too carried away.
